Latin Jazz Jam Hits Conga Room

Combining romance and rhythm, the unique salsa styling of Yari Moré Y Su Orquestra will entice the audience when the Playboy Jazz Festival presents a free jazz concert on Sunday, May 18th at Hollywood’s Conga Room. Doors will open at 8 p.m. Dancing and the show will begin at 9 p.m.

Moré and his 11-piece orchestra will perform a variety of musical styles ranging from salsa and mambo to merenge and slow ballads, which can be heard on his 2002 release Yari Moré Contodos Sus Exitos.

In constant demand, Moré and his orchestra have played numerous “hot spots” and nightclubs in major cities across the United States, and performed with some of the most important “salseros” in the world, including El Rey Del Timbale, Group Niche, Tito Puente, Marc Anthony and India. Celia Cruz, the “Queen of Salsa,”

chose Moré to be her official West Coast orchestra for five years.
A chance encounter in a nightclub in Bogota , Colombia some years ago afforded him the opportunity to become the lead singer in a band six months later, Moré was an established regular in such top Colombian musical groups as “La Tropibomba” and “La Catedra de Colombia.”

Moré moved to Los Angeles in 1978 and released his first album entitled Dame. The premier recording topped the charts in Colombia and Central America, surpassing such noted recording artists as Julio Iglesias, Raphael and Roberto Carlos.

A ballad singer for 10 years, Moré eventually began to explore the rhythms of salsa while continuing to express the romantic sensuality of his music. In 1993, he released a second album, Piel a Piel. Following the success of his first two albums, he was the West Coast artist signed to RMM, the largest tropical music label in the world. He recorded the 1997 album Tal Para cual on RMM.

The concert is part of Playboy’s free community event series presented in conjunction with this year’s 25th silver anniversary Playboy Jazz Festival to be held June 14th and 15th at the Hollywood Bowl.
Salsa enthusiasts must be 21 or older to attend this event.

A limited amount of complimentary reserved seating tickets are available for guests having dinner in La Boca Restaurant. The Conga Room is located at 5364 Wilshire Boulevard, near La Brea Avenue, in Hollywood.
