When Arthur Carter could not get on his favorite slot machine, he took the advice of another casino patron, tried a different game and won a casino record $2,376,626 jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune® dollar slot machine at Casino Morongo Monday evening.

The jackpot was also the highest ever on a Wheel of Fortune® dollar machine in the state of California.
"He said to go ahead and give it a try because I might get lucky," Carter said.
Thirty-five minutes later, Carter, who lives with his wife in Moreno Valley, was in shock as the stranger's prediction rang true and he became California's newest millionaire. The father of four and grandfather of three plans to use his winnings to pay off some bills, help his children and grandchildren, and finally take his wife on a cruise.
At the age of 60 and after more than 20 years as a police officer, Carter was planning to retire at the end of the year and said, "Put it this way, what a great way to retire."
Casino officials were thrilled to add another name to the list of winners.
"Casino Morongo is proud to pay the largest Wheel of Fortune® dollar jackpot in California casino history to Mr. Carter," said Bill Davis, general manager at Casino Morongo. "Considering his years of public service, he couldn't be more deserving."
To visit Casino Morongo, take Interstate 10 to the Cabazon exit.
Wheel of Fortune® is one of the 16 interstate and 9 intrastate Native American wide-area progressive systems nationwide.
