RIVERSIDE

 Members of the Rolling Bear Teams, Anthony Guardamondo, Valentine Balesenio, Eddie Ramirez, Jaime Reyes. The first annual Disabilities Ministry Celebration was held Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Kansas Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church of Riverside. The message was, "A little help brings a lot of hope." Participating vendors of the program included: PossAbilities of Loma Linda University, Guide Dogs of the Desert, California Telephone Access Program, Loma Linda Social Actions and Health Center, Loma Linda Veterans Health Care Outreach, and City of Riverside Fire Departments, Office of Public Information for the deaf, blind, and hard-of hearing.
 Lena Summers, Chair of the Disabilities Committee, Master of Ceremonies Mark McKay and guest speaker Hardy Brown The program aimed to educate, encourage, and update participants about the disabled community. Leeroy Coleman, Senior Pastor of Kansas Ave. SDA said, " Tonight I want a variety of people to meet each other, to begin to exchange contacts, and collaborate together. The other thing is support, we want those with disabilities to sense that we are on their corner, and that we are doing specific things to help them out. Finally, as a Christian community we are not ignoring this, that we are being deliberate in terms of how we assist those who have disability challenges."
Keynote speaker of the program was Hardy Brown, Publisher of the Black Voice News. Following Mr. Brown was Jim Ashley, Head Elder of the Ontario SDA Church. Mr. Ashley delivered a comical presentation about his lifestyle in terms of being blind and how a guide dog assists him each day. He also spoke about the joy he receives from serving the Lord.
Mr. Brown highlighted his experience with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and its impact upon his family, friends, and association with other individuals. He attributes his unwavering faith as the most important substance of being able to continue God's plan for his life.  Samantha Neathery of the Riverside Fire Department assisting guests.
Brown said, "I want those participating in this event to never give up hope, and for Christians to truly believe that Christ is a healer. If He does not remove the thorn from your side, that does not make Him less of a healer. He is using you to further his goals and demonstrate to others how He can impact your life."
At the conclusion of the program, there was a basketball competition between the White Rolling Bears and the Blue Rolling Bears Wheelchair Teams. The game concluded with a tie between the two teams.
