Barack Obama for President

In the good book of John the first thing the apostle writes is, "In the beginning was the Word," meaning the word was the leader of things to follow. You first have to speak it, so that whatever you want or need to happen will follow. I mention this because in this current presidential primary season I have heard some of Senator Barack's opponents say that his talk is good, but it's not action. I consider that he brought 100,000 new voters out to the Iowa Caucus in the cold and snow as action. I consider that 95% of those voters were White as action. He is clearly a candidate that is a coalition builder and a bridge builder. Now I believe the issues that Obama is addressing will draw us closer together as a people and as a nation which is needed after the past 40 years of divide and conquer politics.

I also believe that Obama's approach in bringing the public to the table with a more transparent form of government will help build trust after the closed door policy making of the Bush/Cheney administration. I am convinced that the closed door meetings between Dick Cheney and oil company executives are the reason for the high cost of gas. Some of Obama's opponents believe he cannot be successful with the middle class and with the corporations. I believe once Obama becomes president and takes on the responsibility to be every citizen's president, including American corporations, he will make sure all our interests are represented as business partners and consumers. I don't expect the gas companies or healthcare providers to give their product or service away, however we don't want them to rob us just because they can. We want a president who can say this is excessive and will not be tolerated under my administration.

For the first time a Black man is being taken seriously as a candidate for our country's highest office. This has lifted the hopes of millions in this country and around the world. Parents can tell their children that anything is possible for you if you stay in school. This should help flush others from our community to seek public policy making offices in local communities. When that happens we will get more diverse representation at the local government level. This fear to run, keeps so many good, capable and talented Blacks and Latinos from seeking public office. Obama is an inspiring, motivating, unifying force, something we have not had in the White House for a long time.
