Kris Benz Well hello there!! How have you been? Nice sitting with you once again. Let me take the time to talk about what has been going on here in the desert.
I resigned my duties as President/CEO of the African American Chamber of Commerce Palm Springs. I will remain in office until the AACCPS Board can find someone to take over or until August 1st.
The AACCPS and Family Health & Support Networks "Juneteenth Celebration" that took place at Leon's in the Canyons had over 250 people attending. Bid Whist, Dominoes and Spades tournaments were held.
A Special Thank You to Sandra Austin and the Staff at FHSN for teaming up with AACCPS to put on this wonderful event. Thanks to Rhonda and Felice of Crowning Glory Beauty Supply and Salon for providing the Afro Puffs and Wigs for the 70's Party.
Thanks to Leon and Tony for the food and location. We ate fried catfish, chicken with cabbage, red beans and rice with some white bread.
The 11 o'clock News Band played the hits from back in the day as well as DJ Wendell who played on the wheels of steel.
This event was a kick-off for a planned Juneteenth Festival scheduled for next year. Those that are interested in helping plan this event for next year are asked to contact me in a few weeks at

By the way for those of you who feel that I have not covered a certain event or story here locally or elsewhere. I say to you once again; if you don't tell me about it, I can't cover it. I have been very busy here in the desert, attending different events and trying to make a difference for many here.
