Dr. Tyler to Speak at St. Paul AME Church Print E-mail

St. Paul AME Church Men and Women Ministries will host a revival at the church on April 2nd through April 4th beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The guest speaker will be Dr. Mark Kelly Tyler, Pastor, Macedonia A.M.E. Church of Camden, New Jersey.

Dr. Mark Kelly Tyler
Mark Kelly Tyler is a native of Oakland, CA. He is the third child of Bill and Elroy Tyler. In 1987, he accepted God's call to preach the liberating Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is an ordained elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. 

Dr. Tyler is a graduate of both Clark Atlanta University with a Bachelor in Religion and Payne Theological Seminary where he received his Masters of Divinity. Upon graduation from Payne, Dr. Tyler went into full time pastoral ministry in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. During his time as senior pastor, God has truly blessed his work. He personally received into membership over 300 persons, renovated several buildings for over a half million dollars, and served the following congregations with distinction:

  • Oakley Chapel, Tebbets, Missouri
  • Quinn Chapel, Jefferson City, Missouri
  • Allen Chapel, San Francisco, California
  • Emancipation, Oakland, California
  • Prince Chapel by the Sea, La Jolla, California
  • Bethel, Oxford, Ohio
  • Bethel, West Chester, Pennsylvania

Dr. Tyler has also served as the Director of Church Relations and Alumni Affairs at Payne Theological Seminary. In that role, he worked closely with the president and was responsible for several successful programs. From 2003-2005, Dr. Tyler served as the Director of Church Vocations at New Brunswick Theological Seminary in New Brunswick, New Jersey. There he was responsible for student recruitment, church relations, and provided support to the Office of Development.

He has recently received the Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton (Ohio). His research focused on Bishop Daniel Alexander Payne of the AME Church and his work as a 19th century leader in education. Dr. Tyler currently serves as pastor of the Historical Macedonia A.M.E. Church of Camden, New Jersey. Historical Macedonia holds the distinction of being the oldest Black owned institution in the city of Camden.   

He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and in his spare time enjoys traveling to new places, mountain bike riding, and roller skating. He is the proud father of four beautiful children: Nishon, Jason, Madison, and Sharon. Dr. Tyler and his lovely wife, Leslie, currently reside in southern New Jersey.
