Helping Small Businesses and Organizations Bridge the Digital Divide
MOBILE COMPUTING SOLUTIONS
In today's mobile society, it becomes necessary to manage
your business from almost everywhere. This is possible with today's technology.
There are many ways to achieve this type of connectivity; here, I will give a
brief survey of current solutions. In subsequent articles I will discuss each
solution in depth.
A laptop is typically used as a desktop replacement when you
are traveling. If you do not have a desktop, you can use your laptop as a
suitable replacement. As with any other computing purchase, a good question to
ask is: How will I need to use this computer? Once you answer that question,
most competent computer sales professionals should be able to help you choose
the right product for your needs.
If you want similar functionality as a laptop, but in a
smaller form, a Pocket PC may be what you need. This pocket sized device allows
you to do many of things you would do on your Laptop; albeit on a much smaller
screen. I suggest that you go to a local vendor and try several models out for
yourself. Some people find it very difficult to work with such a small device.
Smart Phones are similar to Pocket PC's; however, they also
double as a cell phone. One advantage is that you don't have to carry a Pocket
PC and a cell phone separately. One of the biggest complaints about these
phone's is the reduced battery life compared to a regular cell phone.
There are many choices within these three options. In the
following articles I will discuss these choices further, along with some usage
suggestions.
