SAN BERNARDINO – Former “Facts of Life” television actress Geri Jewell, who was the first person with a permanent disability to have a regular role on a prime time television series, will headline the 23rd Annual Disability Awareness event Thursday, April 19, at Cal State San Bernardino. The event will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with the 2012 Access Fair. The fair will highlight all the activity, action and resources surrounding disability access at CSUSB, as well as demonstrate various technologies available to students to aid them in their studies.

Attendees will get to hear faculty experiences and learn about workshops offered on campus addressing issues such as accessible documents, presentations and websites. The event will conclude with a speech from actress, comedian and “Facts of Life” star Geri Jewell, who has cerebral palsy that impacts her speech and physical coordination, but she hasn’t let it hinder her success.

She will bring her personal experiences in life, which in turn allow people to gain insight into the idea of seeing disability in a totally different light, creating hope where there is none, and joy where there is pain. Both the access fair and lecture will take place on campus in the Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center.

An ASL interpreter will be present, but for any other accommodations, contact the CSUSB Office of Services for Students with Disabilities at (909) 537-5238.
