San Bernardino County Assistant District Attorney Jim Hackleman was awarded the Peace Officer Retirement Certificate of Commendation by State Attorney General Kamala Harris for his recognition of meritorious service in support of California law enforcement.

"It fills me with great pride that Jim Hackleman was selected by the Attorney General Kamala Harris for this award," said District Attorney Mike Ramos. "He has been a building block for me as a district attorney in helping to put together all of our departments, all of our philosophies and just contributing to the overall great work that has been done in our office. I can't think of a better prosecutor more worthy of this distinction."

The purpose of the Attorney General's Awards Program is to extend officials recognition to citizens and peace officers who perform heroic acts or meritorious service in support of law enforcement or crime prevention.

Hackleman's most recent accomplishment is the creation of the District Attorney's Public Integrity Unit, which handles complaints involving those people holding public office.

Last month, after 38 years of service with the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office, Hackleman announced his retirement, which will take place October 6, 2011.

Looking back on his tenure with the District Attorney's Office, Hackleman said, "I am most honored to be recognized by the Attorney General's Office where I have developed many strong friendships over the years.  I have had the privilege of working with the many wonderful people who work in law enforcement and in our criminal justice system.   I have a great regard for all of them, and I hope that the citizens of San Bernardino County appreciate their dedication in bringing a sense of justice to our communities."
