According to Christina LeRoy, Director Elect for District 10 of CSHA, Totally Kids stands out because of your innovative use of consistent caregivers and homelike environment. All program services, including speech, OT, PT, teachers and nurses are well coordinated so everyone is on the same page when working with such an involved population as medically fragile children are The consistent caregiver program started as a pilot study in late 2009 and based on successes realized through the pilot study led to the consistent caregiver program being rolled out in January, 2010. Kathryn Lilje, Therapy Manager at Totally Kids, states, “The trust that is established between caregiver and child is vital to their success. Having consistent caregivers gives the child a sense of structure and stability and gives the caregivers a better understanding of the effect their efforts are having on a daily basis.’ At Totally Kids, the staff has worked hard to get to a truly integrated approach in the care being provided because it allows for the children to best reach their maximum potential. At the same time, the staff is appreciative of their hard work being recognized.
“What an honor to be recognized by our professional state organization for a program that is collaborative in nature, and as a result, achieves tremendous outcomes,” stated Vicki Hayes, Speech & Language Pathologist at Totally Kids.
Totally Kids has continued to serve children with special needs since 1971. The Loma Linda campus of Totally Kids provides a continuum of care for medically fragile and technology dependent children which consists of a 56 bed pediatric sub acute, 15 bed Intermediate Care Facility and a Pediatric Day Health and Day Care Facility.
