Mayor Patrick Morris welcomed members of Arrowhead United Way’s Young Leadership Council to San Bernardino City Hall, where Council members were given the opportunity to network and learn from one of the community’s prominent leaders. The Young Leadership Council (YLC) consists of young professionals between the ages of 21 and 40 who support the Council’s mission to be actively engaged in the community, inspire philanthropy, promote volunteerism, and partner with the next generation of decision-makers.

The goal of the “Lunch with a Leader” events is to provide an opportunity for tomorrow’s leaders to connect with prominent and successful leaders of today who impart their “secrets of success”, including how to overcome obstacles, and common characteristics that good leaders share.

Mayor Morris shared that “a leader allows people to make their own decisions”.

Karla Morales, Chair of the YLC, and “Lunch with a Leader” participant, commented that “having the opportunity to meet with leaders such as the Mayor was a rewarding experience. As young leaders in the community, we need to have leaders mentor us, so, that we can be effective in mentoring the next generation of leaders.”

Hardy Brown II, also a member of YLC and in attendance at the luncheon, added “the Mayor emphasized the importance of building relationships – that they are the foundation to collaborations, which are essential in today’s business environment.”

Arrowhead United Way encourages individuals to become more involved in the community by giving, advocating, and volunteering.
