Imani Temple Christian Fellowship Church, under the direction of Bishop-Elect, Jelani Faraja Kafela, celebrates the opening of The Shelter T. White Institute of Biblical Study. Named and dedicated to the late Pastor Shelter T. White of the Immanuel Baptist Church in San Dimas, CA, who desired to create a platform for Biblical Studies.

Imani Temple has partnered with Promise Christian University, based out of Pasadena, CA in the development of this Biblical Institute.

This pilot program, will offer a certificate of completion as a preliminary milestone, which can be applied to a full fledged accreditation toward an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Biblical Studies.

The Institute plans to target both ministerial and deaconate, as well as laypersons interested in Biblical Study, faith based direction and clarity, “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry…” (Ephesians 4:12).

A reception is planned for 3:00 PM Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Imani’s IPG Center, to celebrate the opening of the institute and to introduce the institute’s instructors and Dr. Michael McKinney, President of Promise Christian University and his wife Dr. Adelle McKinney.

"The goal of The Shelter White Institute for Biblical Studies Certificate Program is to equip students to be servant leaders with knowledge, skills, and character that make a difference in the real world. We are committed to building the leadership capacity and aiding in the development of future ministry leaders so that they will impact the world for Christ. We want students to be anchored to the unchangeable Word of God and equipped to face the challenges of the 21st Century. Imani Temple Christian Fellowship, in partnership with Promise Christian University is a faithful fellowship of believers, who we believe has a special assignment in the kingdom of God – to become an equipping center that releases people's dreams and promotes the call to effective ministry by the body of Christ," said Bishop Elect J. Faraja Kafela.

Bishop-Elect, Jelani Faraja Kafela and his wife Lady Kathy began planting the seeds for Imani Temple Christian Fellowship Church, in May of 1998, with an 8 member visionary committee.

On July 19, 1998, Imani (which is the Swahili word for faith) Temple Christian Fellowship held its first Worship Service in the home of one its founding members and mother of Bishop-Elect Kafela, Muriel Cloyd. Imani was founded on the important concept of Christ, Culture and Community, which was typified by the mantra that “at Imani we are unashamedly African and unapologetically Christian.” The vision of Imani is to be a Faithful Living Temple of Christ where the wounded are welcome and the faithful have fellowship in Christ.

Imani Temple with the diligence of their leadership and the help of its faithful members, established a multiplicity of ministries designed to speak and address the spiritual needs of all those who walk through its doors.
