The spirit of giving was in action this weekend at Time for Change Foundation's fourth annual Toy and Household Item Giveaway where thousands of toys, household supplies and necessities were given to local families in need.
"There is nothing greater than putting a smile on a child's face whose life's troubles had washed away," said Rhea Duckworth an event volunteer and former client of TFCF.
Over 300 families attended the event, held on Saturday, December 18th from 10am to 12pm in the Foundation's business office parking lot filled with tents, balloons, and lots of free hot coffee and food to go around.
In a time of insurmountable financial struggle, TFCF and its community partners were able to meet a need in the community.
This season can be stressful and often disappointing as grand holiday expectations collide with the reality of anxiety regarding financial insecurity.
"Everybody was so grateful. This was truly an awesome event," expressed Michelle Freeman the Foundation's Board Treasurer.
The event was a great success as smiling children shared their enthusiasm for the gifts they were given. "I'm really excited because this is the best gift I am getting for Christmas," said Dashawn, a bubbly fourth grader who received a bike.
TFCF's shelter clients felt prideful as they were in a position to help others by passing out towels, sheets, and comforters to parents who stood in the rain for hours as the agency helped meet their family's needs.
The event is a perfect example of what is needed to restore a sense of pride, solidarity, and hope back into the lives of families that are victims of the financial meltdown. The best gift one can receive this season is the gift of giving. TFCF and its community partners are leading the way for change, and ask everyone to help someone in need this holiday season.
