On behalf of the 'We're Sweet on Soldiers' project, the Inland Center in San Bernardino collected Valentine's Day cards and non-perishable supplies for U.S. troops deployed overseas.

Assemblymember Wilmer Amina Carter (D-Rialto), joining with Inland Center Mall, invites the community to participate in the holiday project "to let the troops know that they are supported and appreciated for their dedication to this country."

The public should bring cards and supplies to the Inland Center Guest Services Center, 500 Inland Center Drive, during the mall's regular operating hours.

Requested supplies are: toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, black boot socks, snack bars, single-serve powdered drink mixes, foot powder, small packs of baby wipes, batteries, and microwavable soups, noodles and stews.

In 2009, Inland Center collected more than 5,500 greeting cards and 18,000 nonperishable food items, socks and toiletries.

Supplies will be delivered overseas by "Touch of Home" Support 4R Deployed Military, Inc.

Many Valentine's Day cards were created by local school children. "The troops overseas really appreciate the children's letters," said Assemblymember Carter, who, last year, picked up boxes of cards from Casa Ramona Academy in San Bernardino, Sycamore Elementary in Colton and Casey Elementary in Rialto.
