CSUSB Honors Its Graduating Students At June Commencement

SAN BERNARDINO – Cal State San Bernardino will honor nearly 3,000 students for their dedication, hard work and determination as those who participate will receive their degrees during six separate commencement ceremonies being held on June 14, 16 and 17. Along with the graduation, the university will pay tribute to longtime CSUSB supporter, legendary professional golfer and golf instructor Dave Stockton, who will be presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by the university at its College of Natural Sciences ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, June 17, at Coussoulis Arena.

The first graduation ceremony will be held at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus on Thursday, June 14, at 6 p.m. at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage. Lisa Houston, chief executive officer and president of FIND (Food In Need of Distribution) Food Bank Inc., will deliver the commencement address.

The graduation ceremonies will then shift to Coussoulis Arena at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, June 16, where for the first time in the university’s history, students receiving graduate degrees will be honored in a separate commencement ceremony. Saturday’s commencement ceremonies will begin at 8:45 a.m. when CSUSB’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences will hold its graduation exercises, followed by the graduate student commencement ceremony at 12:45 p.m. and the College of Business and Public Administration ceremonies at 4:45 p.m.

On Sunday, June 17, the CSUSB College of Natural Sciences will hold its ceremony at 8:45 a.m., when Stockton will be presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. The College of Arts and Letters commencement will hold the final graduation ceremony of the weekend at 12:45 p.m. The university’s College of Education will no longer have a dedicated commencement, because it primarily awards graduate degrees and those students will be recognized at the graduate ceremony on June 16. Students earning bachelor’s degrees from the College of Education will participate in the College of Arts and Letters commencement. Each college ceremony will also honor its outstanding undergraduates and the graduate students will be honored during their commencement ceremony. Listed below are the colleges and their outstanding students.

Palm Desert Campus • Outstanding graduate student – Elizabeth Allaire, Palm Desert, master’s degree – accountancy; bachelors’ degrees – business administration/ accounting. • Outstanding undergraduate student – Kelly Schoenfeld, Indio, bachelor’s degree – nursing.

College of Social and Behavioral Sciences • Outstanding graduate student: Kimberly French, San Bernardino, master’s degree – industrial-organizational psychology. • Outstanding undergraduate student: Joseph J. Armendarez, Highland, bachelor’s degree dual major in psychology and human development, minor in Spanish.

College of Business and Public Administration • Outstanding graduate student: Alton Hardin, Colton, master’s degree – information assurance and security management. • Outstanding undergraduate student: Mowan Xie, San Bernardino, bachelor’s degree – business administration.

College of Natural Sciences • Outstanding graduate student: Laughing Bear Torrez, San Bernardino, master’s degree – biology. • Outstanding undergraduate student: Li Wang, San Bernardino, bachelor’s degree – biochemistry.

College of Arts and Letters • Outstanding graduate student: Miguel Zepeda, Moreno Valley, master’s degree – Hispanic literature, linguistics and civilization. • Outstanding undergraduate student: Alexander Hedstrom, San Bernardino, bachelor’s degree – mass communication. • Outstanding undergraduate student liberal arts: Jason Kamura, Victorville, bachelor’s degree – liberal studies.

College of Education • Outstanding graduate student: Martha Schauer, Fontana, master’s degree – education in integrated science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
