SAN BERNARDINO –The importance of keeping children safe by not leaving them unattended in cars, where temperatures can get deadly very quickly, was recently highlighted with a “Too Hot for Tot” demonstration in the parking lot of Carousel Mall in San Bernardino.

The demonstration was staged by a coalition of children’s safety advocates – Safe Kids Inland Empire, Children’s Network County of San Bernardino, San Bernardino County Fire Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, First 5 San Bernardino, and Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.

Fire and law enforcement officers responded to a mock scenario of a child left inside a locked car, where internal temperatures soared over 150 degrees in minutes. Michelle Parker, coordinator of Safe Kids Inland Empire based out of Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, said the event hoped to raise awareness in the community about avoiding a preventable injury to our most vulnerable population.
