Medical Assistant students from Four-D College’s Colton campus will carry on a holiday tradition when they volunteer at the San Bernardino County Food Bank on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Four-D College students first volunteered at the food bank in 2009, and are doing so again. They also have volunteered at other times during the year.

“The students love the sense of community and teamwork we experience,” said Cheryl Jerzak, Medical Assistant program director.

The San Bernardino County Food Bank relies mainly on volunteers, but 22 more from 4D College were a welcome addition, said Gerald Wilson, spokesperson for the food bank.

When the Four-D College students volunteered last December, their task was to sort and package about 10,000 lbs. of bread. Their assigned task this year will depend on the needs of the food bank at the time.

“It would have taken our normal (much smaller and busier) crew a week to pack as much bread as they packed in two hours,” Wilson said.

“Their help meant the food got to the hungry people who need it that much faster.

“This year, even more people are relying on the food bank, so it is even more important we get the food to our distribution locations as quickly as possible,” Wilson added.

The San Bernardino County Food Bank serves about 130 locations throughout the county, including some in Needles and other communities on the Arizona border, as well as more than 40 in the city of San Bernardino.

Four-D College provides education in the growing health care field at locations in Colton and Victorville.

Four-D College offers programs in vocational nursing, medical assistant, medical billing and coding, dental assistant, massage therapy and pharmacy technician.

New courses begin monthly at Four-D College and courses are available in the morning, afternoon and evening to meet the needs of working adults.
