Assembly Member Wilmer Amina Carter held a fundraiser for Chairman James Ramos who is running for re-election to the San Bernardino Community College Board of Trustees. He is currently chairman of the board and the leader of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
Ramos spoke of his accomplishments as well as his goals for his next term. Close to 200 people came out and were not allowed to leave until they filled out pledge cards. In a light minute, Carter said everyone could do something, from taking a sign, to donating to the campaign, from walking, to making phone calls. She outlined the importance of this election and pointed out what Ramos’ leadership has meant to the board, staff and to the students.
Ramos said his goal is to open education to everyone. He spoke of the school’s vocational classes as well as how they were preparing students for four-year colleges.
He is most proud of the middle college school that allows students to graduate from high school and two years of college at the same time. He is ready and able to carry on for another term and judging from the enthusiastic crowd so were they.
