On Sunday, February 21, 2010, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Bernardino, God’s Precious One Publications, The Draper Center of Pomona College, Rare Diamonds of Pomona College, and the SCORE Office of Scripps College in cooperation with My College Connection, Sacred Sistahs, Inc. BLU Educational Foundation, Urban Lyfestyles, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will host a Multi-media Extravaganza inspired and titled after the soon to be released book “The ABCs of You: Words of Inspiration and Affirmation in Celebration of Women” by Micki Poole Clowney. The ABCs of You* celebration will be held in the Garrison Theater of the Claremont Col leges at the Scripps College Performing Arts Center at 3:30pm. Doors will open at 3:00pm.
The ABCs of You* is a celebration of women of all ages, sizes, and colors, which is a timely prelude to Women’s Herstory Month. *
The event is a celebration of the beauty and triumphs of women and will feature a myriad of artistic expression, including spoken word, song, dance and more, from local high school and college students.
There will also be a fashion show, including some unique styles of an up and coming designer, Zelle Couture. Finally, the event will serve as the inaugural photo exhibition of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Bernardino’s Image Makers program. This installation will portray BGC members’ interpretations of women. ImageMakers is a national program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The national initiative delivers a state-of-the-art photography curriculum, provides photographic resources and opportunities for Club members to compete on a national level.
ImageMakers provides local, regional and national recognition through an annual photography contest. Winning photos will be displayed nationwide at museums as well as at BGCA’s annual National Conference.
Following the showcase, there will be a reception featuring the soulful jazz sounds of J. Boykin and a book signing for *The ABCs of You*.
The event is free and open to the public. This is a wonderful activity for the entire family.
