Riverside – The Riverside Police Department VICE Unit recently conducted a “Shoulder Tap” operation in the North and East areas of the City of Riverside. A minor, under the supervision of Vice officers, was placed to the front of locations that sell alcohol. The minors would tell customers they were under age and then would solicit customers to purchase alcohol for them. The minors were placed to the front of 4 locations and contacted 14 people that resulted in 4 arrests for furnishing alcohol to a minor. The program is intended to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors.

The people who furnish alcohol to the minor are arrested and given a citation. The penalties for a violation could be a fine up to $3800.00, up to 36 months of probation, jail time, and community service.

This project is part of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Minor Decoy / Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
