The Janet Goeske Senior Center will present their 11th annual Black History Luncheon. The Center is located at 5257 Sierra Street, Riverside, CA. The luncheon will be held on Friday February 25th, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Tickets are $6.00 for non-members and $5.00 for members. The traditional meal of Southern cooking that includes Fried Chicken and Collard Greens and more is a real treat.
The theme this year is “The African Influence on American Dance”. Trained dancers from the nationally acclaimed Bre Studio of Riverside will perform a historical review of American dances. They will perform the shuffle, Charleston, Lindy Hop, Tap, Swing, Jitterbug, Stilt dancing and more.
Clifford Breland, Artistic Director of the studio trained with Mary Lynn, (full scholarship with dance theatre of Harlem) and the Alvin Ailey School of Dance.
Breland has operated the Bre Dance Studio in Riverside for 20 years.
Helen Christmon Chairperson of the event for the last 4 years states: “The luncheon and entertainment gets better each year but it would be hard to ever top this one”.
