The holiday season has been a busy one for Banning Cultural Alliance Top Ten performers as members have performed at places including Gramma's Country Kitchen, The Haven, and last Saturday at the city's Winter Magic event.

The program, which began last April, has been one of the most successful programs to date, offered to local youth through the Banning Cultural Alliance's youth programs.

During the Summer months its members hosted their own performance venue at the Banning Woman's Club, with 30 to 60 people in attendance each week, including both Top Ten members and audience members.

Over the summer they also performed throughout the Pass area at local businesses such as the Haven and at events like Kooler Summer Nites Street Fair in downtown Banning and during Stagecoach Days at Dysart Park.

" I have seen many talented youth since I started working in Banning and wanted to provide a program that gives them the opportunity to actually perform for audiences," said Cindy Watson, youth program director for the BCAlliance.

"It is not a class per se," she added, "but an opportunity for them to perform and improve their skills."

"I have seen huge improvements in their performances, some too shy to actually complete a song in public can now confidently perform full, semi professional sets," said Watson.

According to Watson the group has also become a hub for other local youth that attend performances and the weekly practices.

Top Ten will begin their winter performances at the Woman's Club, January 28.

They will open the doors of the Woman's Club the last Thursday of each month thereafter, until June.

Top Ten is also available for local performances at events and other venues.

Auditions for Top Ten are ongoing.

"You do not have to be perfect," said Watson, "but if for example you are a singer, you must perform an entire song at the time of your audition or a three minute routine."

Top Ten welcomes dancers, singers, instrumentalists, poets, comedians and more.

To arrange your own audition, or for information on having members of Top Ten perform at your venue, call Mrs.Watson at (909) 645- 6545, after January 2, or attend the first 2011 meeting of Top Ten, January 7, at 175 W. Hays, Banning, from 5 - 7pm.
