Harvard and Princeton graduate Cornel West will visit Riverside City College on Friday, November 5 to speak on the current state of racial relations and justice in America.

Scheduled for the Landis Performing Arts Center Auditorium, West’s presentation is part of a special program sponsored in part by and benefitting the Eddie Hart All in One Foundation and the Mutivation Youth Services.

West is perhaps best known for his 1993 book, Race Matters, which examined racism in American Democracy. His writing, speaking, and teaching weave together the traditions of the Black Baptist Church, progressive politics, and jazz. A professor at Princeton University, he is author of 19 other books, a commentator for Public Radio International, and one of the creative forces behind the Matrix series of movies. West graduated magna cum laude from Harvard and earned his Ph.D. from Princeton. West’s appearance at RCC was arranged through the Riverside City College Diversity Committee.

The event, which will include discussions with RCC students and local high school students, is scheduled from 1-2 pm and will include participation by several student groups on campus. Later that evening, West is scheduled to be at UC Riverside.
