Is bi-partisanship possible?

The President continues to hold out the olive branch to Republicans as he seeks bi-partisan support of health care reform and a jobs creation bill. It is yet to be seen if Obama will get GOP cooperation, or if the Republican Party believes it will be more successful politically to oppose every Obama initiative.

Town Hall in Nashua – Can Riverside or San Bernardino be far behind?

President Obama held a town hall meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, population 86,600, unemployment around 7%. The purpose was to roll out initiatives mentioned during the State of the Union address, including proposals to create jobs and grow small businesses.

New Hampshire is a politically strategic state for Presidential elections, because it holds one of the early primaries. President Obama told the crowd, “I won’t rest until businesses are hiring again, and wages are rising again, and the middle class is thriving again, and we’ve finally got an economy that works for all Americans, not just some Americans.”

National Prayer Breakfast

The President spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast. Surrounded by government leaders, his words included the following: “Progress comes when we open our hearts, when we extend our hands, when we recognize our common humanity. Progress comes when we look into the eyes of another and see the face of God. That we might do so - that we will do so all the time, not just some of the time - is my fervent prayer for our nation and the world.”

The Washington, DC area shut down as it was covered in over two feet of snow with more on the way. All government offices and Congress were closed, slowing down the Administration’s health care reform bill and other pending legislation.

Administration Responds to Huge Premium Increases by Anthem Blue Cross

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, expressed outrage at the premium hikes by California’s Anthem Blue Cross.

Premiums are increasing up to 39%. This when the parent company reported $2,740,000,000 in profits during the last quarter of 2009.

The increases become effective March 1 of this year and will affect some 800,000 policyholders.

Sebelius stressed the need for health care reform to control price hikes by insurers.
